Color pencils on paper, mounted to a wooden panel, decorated with leather.

The paper surface is covered with a few layers of special fixative spray that keeps paper from fading and damaging.

The Chess collection has taken many turns while I’ve been working on it. It came at a time when I got obsessed with landscapes and felt inspired to bring them into my work. I realized that, in a way, I was still drawing the same natural patterns I’ve always been drawn to—only now, instead of zooming in on rocks and tree textures, I was stepping back to see them as part of a bigger picture.

“My Harmony” was a turning point—where a portrait and a landscape started to merge. The chess pattern still splits the image into neat squares, but within that rhythm, the pieces stay connected. The face and the landscape aren’t separate—they shift in and out of each other, like when you squint at the world and everything softens. And then there’s that one colored square—a pause, a reminder to look again.
